About this month's guest:

John Oates

In the 13th edition of Live from Daryl's House, on Nov. 15, Daryl Hall joins with John Oates to celebrate the groundbreaking web-show's one-year anniversary by playing for the first time a song they insist was instrumental in bringing them together back in Philadelphia.

In the latest installment of the popular web destination, Daryl and John will spotlight Oates' recently released solo album, 1000 Miles of Life, which he recorded in Nashville with such noted collaborators as bluegrass legends Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas and Sam Bush, who hadn't played together since their days in New Grass Revival.

The highlight, though, is the duo's cover of the Memphis doo-wop obscurity, "I Want Someone," by The Mad Lads.

"It's the song that first brought John and I together as teenagers to form a group," says Daryl. "We shared a love for the tune, which, in my mind, is true American folk music."

"It was a favorite of Daryl and mine," adds John. "We saw The Mad Lads perform the song at the Uptown Theater in Philadelphia. I remember it because they wore yellow suits with white gloves. When Daryl and I met, and began to learn a little bit about each other, we discovered we both loved it. We've never played it live before. This will be a first."

Daryl and John also play four songs from Oates' solo album, including "Ghost Town," Oates' haunting ode to post-Katrina New Orleans, "Change of Seasons" and the title track. The two then launch into an impromptu version of the O'Jays' "Backstabbers" and their own "Possession Obsession."

I love the new stuff Daryl but I swear it's the old songs that you do that moves my soul like nothing else can . Just like the old days in Dallas when Hall & Oates would come on my car radio and I would get lost in the music. Thanks ! Patricia

Ever since I was two years old your voices have been the only two voices that have brought me pure and absolute pleasure to listen to and experience. Your soulful sounds touch my heart everytime. :) Thanks Daryl and John for all the wonderful years of musical treasures and gifts you've both given by sharing your incredible voices as well as instrumental talents.
- Dayna Fesciuc
Loved the show! It was truly enjoyable. Thanks for sharing it with your fans!:)
- Mair
Oh, my. Backstabbers. Yes, John, a ridiculously good song when you can harmonize like you and Daryl can. How do you guys do it? Who on Earth wants to chase the fountain of youth when the two of you get more fabulous with age? Like fine-tuning a precious instrument. I love this idea Daryl has of bringing in new talent to play with. But when Daryl gets together with John Oats, everyone just stops and listens to the magic they bring to a song when they inspire each other to just "get in the zone." Well done, gentlemen. Well done.
- Teri Pendy
Great show as usual, and it was great to see John back again. The place has the coolest vibe and the music is always top notch. T-bone is one heck of a guy, and Daryl, you just keep on getting better with time ”I've been a fan since the '70s. Thanks for letting us into your incredibly rockin' house.

You bring your part, Daryl, and John brings his while checking your egos at the door. Even though you have solo careers, it's good to see you together again. You're going to love each other until the end of creation, so remember to do this again real soon. You're 2 old souls .....

Having just seen H&O in Santa Barbara just a few days ago, I can only say that this LFDH episode continued my "high" from that night. This is why you two are the absolute best! John's new album is fantastic, but with you revisiting some of your older songs (which I remember when they were new!), it only goes to show just how really timeless they are. Thanks, guys - you are my absolute favorite! Hope to see you again in CA real soon!
- Debbie
OMG, you guys you are awesome, I have been a fan for over 20 years. Love the Mad Lads song, you should record it!

I've been a H&O fan since my high school days about 25 years ago. Daryl... thanks for letting us into your home and letting us hear some fantastic music. John... your new album is just wonderful. I can actually feel some vibes coming out of the CD. Spinning Down is my favorite... I say "I Love You" to everyone I love... especially my son and wife before we go to bed. Special song... You guys sound better than ever! Come up to Seattle SOON!
- David
Great to see you playing in Freeport Maine during the summer and John singing for the world champs Phils.

What a treat to see you both online so soon again after I saw you at Caesars Windsor last friday and saturday, down by the stage. You two still look young! Been loving you two since 1976!! Take care and keep up the great work!
- Mary
This was the best "Live from Daryl's House" in my estimation. To see the collaborative processes amongst Daryl and John and T-Bone and Sean Pelton was inspiring. John's tracks were great and the O'Jays Backstabber almost blew the roof off that studio.
- Kevin B. Keane
Thanks again Daryl for letting me into your home! I loved this episode the best! Congratulations John on 1000 Miles Of Life! I am hoping the two of you will come back to the Florida Theatre soon! We love Hall & Oates here in North Florida!

Daryl, you've always been a role model for me and when I stumbled across LFDH last year it single-handedly renewed my mojo during a very dark time for me. This show with John was one of the best so far, and very appropriate for the one year anniversary. Hangin' at the house with you and the boyos is one of those gifts that keeps on givin'. The only thing better would be showing up in person. Hey, maybe you should have a drawing for that! Much love & respect to all of you, Barry
- Barry Maloney
